What is Your Possibility?

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a good future.” Jeremiah 29:11

jeremiah-29-11.jpg

BE A DREAMER

I am a dreamer.  It’s part of the fabric of my being.  One of my dreams as a kid was to play football professionally for the Minnesota Vikings.  I was on that path until a devastating knee injury in college changed the course of my entire life.

That unrealized dream has lead me to dream even bigger dreams.  Dreams that will change the world.

Even though I am a dreamer, sometimes the dreams lie dormant in our hearts for many years.  My hope for you and me is that we awaken that dreamer in us.  That we realize we can create the life of our dreams by stepping into the person God created us to be.

dreamer.jpg

My dream has always been to be an entrepreneur.    After God placed that dream on my heart over twenty-five years ago it finally has come to fruition.  I believe the possibilities for myself and for you are endless.

What I am learning on this journey of self-realization is that I am the only one who can hold myself back.  And how do I hold myself back?   Through self-doubt.  By not believing in myself.  By not stepping into believing I am who God says I am.

I AM strong.  I AM courageous.  I AM brave.    Joshua 1:9 says, “This is my command-be strong and courageous!  Do not be afraid or discouraged.  For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

OVERCOME SELF-DOUBT

So why do I and so many Jesus followers struggle with self-doubt?  It is very clear in scripture what God says about us.  I am realizing that this is my challenge to overcome.  The only way I can truly live an abundant life and live the life that God created me for is to turn my self-doubt into self-confidence.

The only way to turn my self-doubt into self-confidence is to see myself the way God sees me.  When I start to live my life that way is when I will manifest abundance in my life.  That is when I will become fully alive and start to take risks that will allow me to live the life of my dreams.

What I want for you is to live the life that God intended for you.  That you start to create your dream life by turning your self-doubt into self-confidence.

I AM

I have dabbled in I AM statements in the past, but have never stuck with repeating them over and over.   There are so many powerful I AM statements in the Bible, but it is easy to gloss over them and not take them to heart.

Here are some of the most powerful I AM statements in the Bible that can help us turn our self-doubt in self-confidence by starting to see ourselves the way God sees us.

·         I AM the salt of the earth. (Matthew 5:13)

·         I AM the light of the world. (Matthew 5:14)

·         I AM a child of God. (John 1:12)

·         I AM a part of the true vine, a channel of Christ’s life. (John 15:1,5)

·         I AM Christ’s friend. (John 15:15)

·         I AM a new creation. (2nd Corinthians 5:17)

·         I AM the enemy of the devil. (1 Peter 5:8)

·         I AM a son of God and one in Christ.  (Galatians 3:26,28)

·         I AM united to the Lord and am one spirit with Him. (1 Corinthians 6:17)

·         I AM righteous and holy. (Ephesians 4:24)

What if we started to live out those I AM statements?  What if we showed up in the world as the light of the world as Matthew 5:14 says.   What a game changer that would be.  What would the possibility be for your life?

A quote I love from Christopher Reeve says, “Once you choose hope, anything’s possible.”  There are so many possibilities for us when we live with faith, hope and love.  We will live the life God intended for us when we start to see ourselves the way God sees us.   That’s when we will dream big and start to take big risks for the betterment of humanity.

ONE Million Starts with ONE

ONE Million Starts with ONE

In this world of follows and likes on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, LinkedIn and however many more social media platforms we have it is so easy to get caught up in numbers.  Believe me I have fallen into that trap many times myself.

I often times wonder what our life would be like if we went back to the days before social media.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think social media is all bad and I certainly use it to share my story and encourage others, but I also know it’s a source of wounding.  It’s a source of comparison and envy.

Sometimes I feel wounded after habitually glancing at Instagram when I subconsciously grab the phone without thinking about it and mindlessly scroll down the page.

My thoughts run to why does he have so many followers and I can’t get past 230?   Why was he able to find an amazing and beautiful wife and I am still in my singleness searching for my life’s partner and dealing with the challenges of loneliness and the dating world?  Wow, that dude has some serious biceps and abs on him.  What do I have to do to look like him?  Wound after psychological wound.

That’s not good for any of us.  It has created an atmosphere of lack, scarcity and victim hood.  All very negative emotions instead of being grateful for the gift of life we have.

There is one number that is truly important to me and that is the number ONE.  First of all, I am here on this earth to live for an audience of ONE.  That ONE for me is Jesus.  If I am living each and every day according to His plan and not my own, I know my life will be fulfilling and full of love, joy and inner peace.   It’s the audience of ONE that I crave not the number of followers I have on Instagram.

faithandfitness1.jpg

The other reason that the number ONE is important to me is that I want to be a conduit of transformed lives ONE person at a time.   Yes, I have a huge vision of impacting ONE millions men’s lives through my Spiritual Warriors Unite community, but to me it’s all about that ONE person.   That ONE person I can reach through my blog, my podcast, my Bible and Barbells ministry, my Faith and Fitness class at Redeemer Lutheran Church, my Spiritual Warriors Unite monthly gathering at The Body.

I got a phone call the other day from a twenty-five year old man who is seeking out mentorship from me.   If I can make a difference in this ONE man’s life, then I am doing what God has called me to do.  I am not going to worry about the numbers.  That I will leave up to God.  My job is to dream big.  To be more visible so more people can know our amazing and wonderful invisible God.   But my main focus is to be a source of encouragement and inspiration for that ONE man who will be sitting across from me.

I will continue to have the dream and vision to impact ONE million men’s lives through my fitness ministry, but my main concern is that ONE person God has put in front of me today.   The rest is up to Him.

What if we all just focused on the ONE?  The ONE interaction we have at the grocery store.  The ONE interaction we have at the gym?  The ONE interaction we have at the park.  We never know how God is going to use us.   We never know when those divine opportunities are going to happen, but when we live with openness and powerful energy and in our strength, God will align the moments at the right time so we can have a positive influence on ONE.

audience-of-one.jpg

My message is let’s dream big.  Let’s take risks.  Let’s change the world with love.  But let’s not lose sight that it starts with ONE.  It starts with living for an audience of ONE and impacting ONE person’s life at a time.

I am on a mission to build a movement of men who are willing to go on this journey with me of becoming a Spiritual Warrior.  My vision is to impact one million men’s lives through this tribe of Spiritual Warriors.  The journey to one million men starts with one.  Will you be that one who is willing to take a chance on yourself so you can live the life of your dreams?  So you can live a life of purpose feeling fully alive.

Passion and Fire

Passion and Fire

It is so easy to lose our zeal for life.  Too get lulled into a sense of complacency.   My tendency is to want to isolate and hide from the world.  To play it safe, shut my blinds and get lost in a book or just have some chill time.

It will go in spurts.  I will be all fired up and ready to take on the world and then something happens and I just lose all of my steam.  Does that resonate with you?

I want to live my every day with passion and fire.  Actually, I want to live every moment of my life with passion and fire.  I often ask myself if that is possible?  I don’t know, but I do know not living that way sucks the soul right out of us.  That lack of energy, lack of purpose and just trying to survive the day.

FULL BEAT DOWN MODE

I was in full beat down mode earlier this week.  I don’t know if was coming down after a weekend adventure in the mountains or it was an extreme case of allergies.  All I know is it took every ounce of energy just to get out of bed.

I am normally a get out of bed between 3:45 and 4:30am kind of a guy, but it took every ounce of energy and courage to drag my 1000 pound feeling body out of my warm comfy bed.   The brain fog was real.

I know it’s really hard to have any sense of joy when we are feeling that way.  Fortunately for me, it was short lived.  By Thursday, I was back to feeling energized and alive.

But for some of you, you are stuck in that state of living a passionless life.  Believe me I get it.  I was there too for many years of my life.

LIVING IN QUIET DESPERATION

I was stuck in a job that was unfulfilling and in a hopeless marriage that emasculated me.  I had no idea who I was or what my purpose was in my life.  I was living in quiet desperation instead of living with passion and fire.

I finally got the courage to get out of a marriage that I had been fighting so hard to save to no avail.  I had lost the battle of keeping my family together, but I knew I couldn’t go on living the way I was living, broken and hopeless.   There was at least a glimmer of hope when I got out from underneath being alone and isolated in a broken marriage.

My next step of courage came when I left the comfort of the pharmaceutical industry to start my own fitness ministry.   To give up a six-figure job, company car, 401k and all of the perks that when along with this cushy job wasn’t easy, but I knew in my heart and soul that God was calling me to something different.  It took me two years to take that leap of faith and start my own business that I had been dreaming about since I was twenty five years old.

I would love to tell you it has been all sunshine and rainbows since moving to Colorado from Florida, but it hasn’t been.  But I wouldn’t trade the adventure for anything.   There have been financial challenges with starting my own business, a heart break or two along the way along with trying to find a new church and new friends.

LIVE WITH PURPOSE

There have been two things in my life that I want to share with you that has helped me live a life of passion and fire.

The first is that I am living my purpose.  Each and every day I know I am living out on a daily basis what God has called me to do.    God has called me to be revolutionary in helping people integrate faith and fitness into their lives.   He has also called me to be a spiritual warrior and lead other men into their spiritual warriorship.   That is an amazing feeling.  That helps me live with passion and fire.

The second thing that is helping me live with passion and fire is that I make sure that I am incorporating outdoor adventure and physical challenges into my life.  Last year my big challenge was the Triple Bypass bike ride which was 120 miles over three mountain passes and ten thousand feet of elevation gain.    This big hairy audacious goal excited me and scared me at the same time.

Troygravelbike.jpg

My out of my comfort zone goal for this year is a series of gravel bike races.  I did one already in February and I plan on doing four more throughout the summer.

I believe we all need to be challenged physically otherwise we get soft and complacent.  We need to do things that get us out of our comfort zone physically, so we are challenged mentally and spiritually.  With all of my clients I challenge them to come up with a BHAG as coined by Jim Collins.  A big hairy audacious goal.

It has to be something you aren’t sure if you can do it.   Something where you risk “failure” and you have to train your butt off to complete it.

When I was training for the Triple Bypass I was up every Saturday morning by 5am and out the door by 6am so I could spend six to eight hours on my bike.  I wanted to give myself the best chance to complete the Triple Bypass and I am proud to say I felt strong and completed the ride with energy to spare.

So have you lost your passion and fire for life?  Are you bored and living a life of complacency?  Have you gotten soft mentally?

WHAT’S YOUR BHAG?

big-hairy-audacious-goals-1-728.jpg

If you answered yes to any of those questions it’s time to get your butt off the couch and quit living life vicariously through others.  Start living your mission.   Start challenging yourself physically, mentally and spiritually.   Come up with a BHAG.  Start living your life with passion and fire every moment of every day

My mission is to build a tribe of spiritual warriors who are willing to get out of their comfort zone to fight and serve our families, our communities and churches.   We need to rise and up and be spiritual warriors.   We need to train ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually each and every day.

Will you join me in living with passion and fire for the betterment of humanity?

Spiritual Warrior Manifesto

Spiritual Warrior Manifesto

I believe every man wants to live out his true purpose and live a life of significance.  I believe every man wants to step into his power and be the person he was created to be.

Playing small and shrinking back is such a common theme among men in our world today.  We have been settling for mediocrity and the status quo.

“There is no passion to be found playing small-in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”-Nelson Mandela

As Spiritual Warriors we are called to rise up and push our limits of physical fitness, mental toughness and spiritual growth for the betterment of humanity.

Many men are tolerating life and living in quiet desperation.  Boredom is a dangerous place for a man.  It is our enemy.  Life has a way of taking our sense of adventure away.  Our attachment to comfort and security is what limits most men from living powerful and passionate lives.

Spiritual Warriors defy the status quo.   We train ourselves to be warriors because God may have an impossible mission he wants to do through us.  Spiritual Warriors are deeply dependent on God and embrace risk with courage.

Many men fall into a life of self-centeredness, isolation and addiction.  A man’s addictions are the result of refusing our strengths.   Our addictions result from not living out our mission.

Spiritual Warriors are called to live out our purpose and mission.  By aligning every part of our life towards our mission we will feel fully alive and free.

Spiritual Warriors nourish our bodies with healthy food so we can have an abundance of energy and optimal health.

We train physically so we can be strong and full of vitality.

We strengthen our mind so we can overcome fear to make an impact in our world.

We grow spiritually so we can be a source of light in a world that is full of darkness.

Spiritual Warriors are called to live a life of freedom, simplicity and adventure.   We are called to be in community and live a life of service.   A quality of a true Spiritual Warrior is that we are in service to a purpose greater than ourselves.

My mission is to build a social movement of men who are becoming Spiritual Warriors through fitness and physical adventure for the betterment of humanity.

My vision is to be revolutionary in impacting men’s lives with fitness as the platform for growing spiritually.

I invite you to go on this journey with me.   To be a part of our community of Spiritual Warriors.    Imagine the possibilities for yourself, your family, your community and the world when you step into being the man you were created to be and become a Spiritual Warrior!

3 Musts to Make Extreme Self-Care a Priority

3 Musts to Make Extreme Self-Care a Priority

If we don’t have our health what do we have?  Sadly many of us neglect our physical body.  We take for granted this amazing God given vessel we are given.  We abuse it with poor nutrition, lack of exercise, limited sleep and chronic stress.  We are over-worked, stressed and exhausted and our body takes the brunt of this go, go, go mentality.

I would like to propose a new possibility for our health and taking care of our body.  One where we treat our body as precious, because it is.  It’s the only one we are going to get in this life time, so treat it with tender loving care.

What if we made our physical health one of our top priorities in our life?  What if we made it a non-negotiable to take care of our health and fitness by moving more, eating better, sleeping more and managing stress?  How would your life be different?  How would you feel?  Imagine a life full of energy.  Imagine a life where you look, feel and perform better.  It’s right at your fingertips with a few small changes.

MAKE A COMMITMENT

Everything starts with making a decision.  A decision to get healthy.  Once you decide then it’s just a matter of having an effective strategy in place.  But nothing happens until you decide to act.  Often times the hardest part is just getting started.  It’s taking that first step.

Fear of failure is the thing that most often holds us back.  But there is no such thing as failure if you have a growth mindset, meaning that you can’t fail, you can only learn.  So be bold and courageous and make that commitment to get healthy.

MAKE YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS A TOP PRIORITY

The number one excuse people make for not taking care of themselves is lack of time.  What I have learned is that it’s not a time management issue it’s a priority management issue.  We make time for what’s important and what is more important than our health?

Exercise and eating healthy has been a part of my life as long as I can remember.  I find time to do some level of physical exercise almost daily.  I make an appointment with myself every day to take care of my body.  I know I am a much better person physically, mentally and spiritually because I practice extreme self-care daily.

MAKE IT BIGGER THAN YOURSELF

I know the better I take care of myself, the better I will be able to give to others.  Carving time out for ourselves isn’t selfish at all.  In fact being healthy and full of energy is one of the best things we can do for ourselves and others.  When you make it more than about a number on a scale or the way you look, health and fitness takes on a completely different meaning.

One of my clients who has struggled with his health and energy for many years has completely transformed his perspective on why he exercises.  He said it has changed his relationship with his family.  They now go do outdoor activities such as hiking, bike riding or kayaking on a regular basis.  Before he didn’t have the energy to do any of those things.  His renewed health and vitality is having an impact on his family.  Focus on the big picture and all of a sudden exercise and eating healthy takes on a whole new meaning.

Make a commitment to yourself that you are going to practice extreme self-care.  Make it a top priority in your life and realize it will have a bigger impact on the people around you then you think.  Take a chance on yourself and move towards getting in the best shape of your life.

One Percent Better

One Percent Better

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."   Romans 12:12

Tackling change can be a daunting and an overwhelming undertaking sometimes, especially when you are embarking on a body transformation.   In fact I think it can be so overwhelming, people don’t even try, or at the very least they give it a shot, but quit if they don’t see immediate results.

What if you had a different perspective on your body transformation?  What if you just tried to do one thing 1% better today than you did yesterday?   If you are like most people your first response is that it will take way too long to see results, I want results NOW.   If you had that thought, ask yourself this question, “how is the quick fix approach been working for me so far?”  If you are like most people I am guessing it has gotten you to the point where you are frustrated and sick and tired of losing and regaining the same weight over and over again.

So why not try a different approach.  The long term sustainable weight loss approach.  The approach of  trying to get 1% better today than I was yesterday.  What does that look like?  Maybe you are chronically sleep deprived because you don’t go to bed until 1am every morning.  Maybe that 1% is starting to go to sleep 30 minutes earlier.  Is that going to rock your world?  Probably not, but it’s a start and over time you can work on getting to bed a little earlier and before you know it you have fallen into a better sleep pattern.

Try These 3 Things to Get 1% Better:

1.   Focus on one thing at a time.  What is one area that is holding you back in regards to nutrition, movement, mindset, your spiritual life or recovery?  Tackle one area at a time and just focus on that for a couple of weeks.  Once it becomes a habit and you don’t have to think about it anymore move on to the next habit.

2.  Set a realistic goal.  What happens often times people set too big of a stretch goal and they can’t sustain it and they give up too soon.  Your confidence level should be a 9 or 10 that you can do this habit every day.  If not, you bit off more than you can chew.  Set yourself up for success.  For example if you are eating one serving of vegetables a day, don’t try to jump to five servings, just see if you can add another serving over the next two weeks.  Get 1% better.

3.   Enjoy the process.  Making changes can be hard, but really it’s about the journey and not necessarily the end result that is the most important.  See how much you can learn about yourself and your body in the process.  Think of the journey as the destination and the process as the goal.

Change is a process and it doesn’t happen overnight.  Love yourself where you are, but continually seek self-improvement.  Be patient with yourself and know there are going to be plenty of bumps along the way.    The most important thing on your journey isn’t what you accomplish, it’s the type of person you become.

romans1212.jpg

I like to focus on this scripture when my patience is being challenged.  “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”  Romans 12:12

Focus on getting 1% better in one area of your life and you will be amazed with the transformation that takes place.  I would love to partner with you on your journey of getting 1% better.  Reach out to me at troy@troyismir.com to start your transformation today.
