Overdrawn

financialabundance

As I sit here writing this blog post it is 4:30 in the morning. I am drinking my morning cup(s) of coffee. Liquid gold right? My Fitbit, which I have a love-hate relationship with, tells me I got five hours and fifty-seven minutes of sleep. My body tells me that isn’t enough. The bags under my eyes tells me that isn’t enough.

I feel overdrawn on sleep this morning and quite honestly for the majority of my adult life. This is one of the challenges I am facing in my life that I so desperately want to change.

Overdrawn seems to be a metaphor for my life in my most recent days. I opened up my bank account online and I saw a minus sign in front of one of my accounts. Overdrawn!

That is never a good sign. I had purposely padded my savings account when I was getting ready to leave my six figure job as I knew it would take some time to get my fitness ministry off the ground. I am about two years into this faith adventure, and there have been plenty of tests along the way. Finances has certainly been one of them.

CREATING FINANCIAL ABUNDANCE

I am determined not go broke doing what I am called to do. I don’t believe God would call us into our purpose and then have us be overdrawn financially. But I do think He calls us to get creative, to roll up our sleeves and work harder to find ways to be financially successful.

One of my goals is to make more money in my fitness ministry than I did in pharmaceutical sales. I believe in that possibility. What this tells me is the more money I make the more people I am helping. I believe in financial freedom. I believe in giving back. I believe in being a good steward of my money. I believe my being overdrawn will turn into abundance if I just keep chipping away at the rock.

PROPER SLEEP IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL

Now to tackle the bigger problem of sleep. Being overdrawn in sleep impacts every area of my life. When I am rested I feel like I can take on the world, which honestly is not very often. As I look at that dreaded Fitbit app it tells me I have gotten about seven hours of sleep a handful of times over the last six months. You know where that leaves me? Overdrawn. I strongly feel there are parallels between being overdrawn from an energy standpoint and a financial standpoint.

I am working on making sleep a top priority. It’s a funny thing being back in the health and fitness industry after a seventeen year hiatus. I don’t feel very healthy. My work hours require an early morning alarm. Quite often I am up at 4am, so even if I am going to bed at 9pm I am hard pressed to get the sleep my body requires.

I want to let you in on a little secret. Us dedicated people who are in the health and fitness industry trying to help people get healthy and fit have our own battles with health and fitness.

I am finding that sleep is going to be the critical juncture not only for my health, but for me having the impact in the world I want to have. When I am overdrawn, my creativity goes out the window. My inspiration is non-existent. I go from thriving mode to just surviving mode. It’s really a terrible way to live.

God designed us to sleep one-third of our lives. How many of us our not getting proper rest? I am determined to find a way to live my purpose, get the amount of sleep my body requires and have financial abundance. I believe God wants that for me and you. He doesn’t want us to feel overdrawn in any area of our lives.

My prayer for me and you is that we live the life of our dreams. That we create a life that makes us feel fully alive. That is a work in progress for me. I feel it. I see it in my mind. Now I am co-creating this most wonderful life with God as my leader. I am willing to roll up my sleeves and do the courageous work it’s going to take to have the lifestyle and impact that I want. I believe that I am moving from being overdrawn to abundance. That is my prayer for you too.

I love the thought of success without significance is failure.  There is more to life than money for sure.
